Brasilia - With five days left until the deadline for filing the 2013 Individual Income Tax Return, the Federal Revenue Service had received information from 17,013 million taxpayers by 9 am today (26). This number represents 65,43% of the 26 million returns expected this year. The deadline for filing ends at 23:59:59 pm on the 30th (Brasilia time).
Tax returns can be submitted online or delivered on floppy disks to Caixa Econômica Federal and Banco do Brasil branches located throughout the country, during branch operating hours. The software for generating the tax return has been available on the Federal Revenue Service website since February 25th. To transmit the return, it is also necessary to install Receitanet, which can be downloaded from the same website.
This year, for the first time, it will also be possible to submit information via tablets and smartphones with Android (Google) and iOS (Apple) operating systems. However, this is not the case for all taxpayers. According to the IRS, those who cannot use these applications include, for example, taxpayers who received income from individuals, those required to declare debts and encumbrances, those who earned capital gains, and those who received certain types of exempt income or income subject to exclusive taxation. The complete list of ineligible cases is in Normative Instruction 1.339.
The Brazilian Federal Revenue Service has published a step-by-step guide online outlining the procedures for filing the tax return. A manual with frequently asked questions and answers about completing the document is also available. The rules for filing the return are outlined in Normative Instruction 1.333, published in the Official Gazette of the Union on February 19th.
