Tocantins 247 - Leaders from the Green Party (PV), the Workers' Party (PT), and the Christian Democratic Party (PSDC) met on Tuesday morning, the 25th, to officially announce a party alliance for the elections on October 5th. The announcement was made during a press conference at the Legislative Assembly and brought together leaders from the three parties, state deputies, mayors, city councilors, and political leaders from the capital and the interior.

"Today, the true alternative for change in Tocantins is born. This coalition, which we are officially announcing now, arose from an understanding between the three parties that it is necessary to promote a change in the way politics is done in Tocantins, a change in which a democratic environment prevails and a development project is built with the effective participation of the population," argued the president of the Green Party (PV), Deputy Marcelo Lelis.

On June 14th, the Green Party (PV) decided to field its own presidential candidate and chose the name of physician and former federal deputy Eduardo Jorge as the party's candidate. However, Marcelo Lélis, the state president of the PV, opted to support the re-election of President Dilma Rousseff.

"Our commitment to the PT and to all parties that may join this group is to form a strong platform in Tocantins for the re-election of President Dilma. We understand that the governments of President Dilma and President Lula promoted a true transformation in Brazil. It is alongside President Dilma that we want to transform Tocantins as well and bring about the real change that our people deserve," stated Lelis.

Before finalizing the alliance with the PT, the PV's pre-candidate met with the PSB's presidential candidate, Eduardo Campos, in an attempt to reach an agreement. But the socialist leader decided that the party will support the re-election of Governor Sandoval Cardoso (SD).

The president of the PT (Workers' Party) in the state, Júlio Cesar Brasil, reinforced the group's commitment to forming a strong platform in Tocantins to work for the re-election of President Dilma. "That is our objective, which is to re-elect our President Dilma to the Presidency of the Republic, maintaining the social and economic progress of the country," said Brasil.

The new group has not yet defined who the candidates for the main ticket will be. Besides Marcelo Lélis, former mayor Paulo Mourão is also a pre-candidate for governor, representing the PT (Workers' Party). The party has not shown unity in yielding the top spot on the ticket to Lélis. The defense of maintaining Paulo Mourão's name as the group's candidate has grown within the PT, especially after the decision of the Regional Electoral Court (TRE) that upheld Marcelo Lélis's eight-year ineligibility for abuse of economic power in the 2012 elections.
