PT attempts regional neutrality to avoid PSB's support for Ciro.

The candidacy of Recife city councilwoman Marília Arraes for Governor of Pernambuco has once again been shaken by statements from PT (Workers' Party) leaders that the party has abandoned negotiations aimed at a national coalition with the PSB (Brazilian Socialist Party) in the October elections. The objective of the Advisory Council's decision is to prevent the PSB from formalizing a national alliance with Ciro Gomes (PDT), which would leave the PT free in the states to support whichever candidate they deem best.

247 - The candidacy of Recife city councilwoman Marília Arraes for Governor of Pernambuco has once again been shaken by statements from PT (Workers' Party) leaders that the party has abandoned negotiations aimed at a national coalition with the PSB (Brazilian Socialist Party) in the October elections. The objective of the Advisory Council's decision is to prevent the PSB from formalizing a national alliance with Ciro Gomes (PDT), which would leave the PT free in the states to support whichever candidate they deem best.

In the case of Pernambuco, Marília – who is technically tied with the governor and candidate for re-election Paulo Câmara (PSB) – is being pressured to abandon her pre-candidacy in favor of a national alliance. In exchange, the PT would support the socialist's re-election. The situation would also be repeated in Minas Gerais, but in the opposite way. The PSB would withdraw the candidacy of the former mayor of Belo Horizonte, Márcio Lacerda, and support the re-election of Governor Fernando Pimentel.

Discussions within the PT (Workers' Party) regarding national support from the PSB (Brazilian Socialist Party), which directly affect Marília's candidacy, have already resulted in the postponement of two PT conventions in Pernambuco. Marília currently holds a majority in the state directory, despite resistance from historical PT members such as Senator Humberto Costa, who advocates for Marília's withdrawal and the party's support for Paulo Câmara's reelection to secure PSB support at the national level.

According to the newspaper O Estado de São Paulo, the national president of the PSB, Carlos Siqueira, said that the party has not yet decided whether or not to support the PT at the national level. This decision, according to him, will be made on the 5th, when the party will decide whether to support Ciro Gomes or the PT nationally. According to the socialist leader, "the PT conditioned Marília's withdrawal on a national agreement."
