Minas 247 – State Representative Rogerio Correia states that the Workers' Party will now have to urgently file a complaint with the Senate's ethics committee, requesting the removal of Aécio Neves (PSDB-MG) from office.

"He was caught asking for and receiving bribes, which is incompatible with parliamentary decorum," says the congressman, who, as a member of the party's national board, criticized the PT's official statement on the case.

Correia states that the case is so serious that both Aécio's sister, Andrea Neves, and his cousin, Fred Pacheco, are under house arrest. "Aécio must be impeached to answer for the crimes he committed."

In a statement, the PT (Workers' Party) said that Aécio deserves the contempt of society, but cannot be removed from office by the Supreme Court.

Aécio Neves is one of the main people responsible for the country's political and economic crisis and for the destabilization of Brazilian democracy.

Defeated at the polls, he rebelled against popular sovereignty and led the PSDB and the most reactionary forces in politics and the media in a campaign of hatred and lies, which led to the impeachment coup and the installation of a criminal gang in government.

To achieve their political goals, they tore up the Constitution and encouraged illegal partisan political action by sectors of the Judiciary and the Public Prosecutor's Office.

They applauded all the arbitrary actions committed against PT leaders and popular sectors, the violations of due process and the democratic rule of law.

They colluded in the process of politicizing the judiciary, which essentially aimed to weaken the powers elected by the people.

Repeated violations of the law have created an institutional monster whose brain is the media, controlled by Rede Globo, and whose arms are sectors of the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Judiciary that often accuse, punish, or pardon based on political criteria.

Today, Aécio Neves faces the monster he helped create.

He lacks the moral authority to position himself as a victim.

The victims are the Brazilian women and men who suffer from unemployment, recession, the end of social programs, and the return of hunger to the country, under the government of which Aécio Neves is the founder and accomplice.

Because of his hypocritical behavior and false moralism, Aécio Neves deserves and receives the contempt of the Brazilian people.

He will one day have to answer before the courts for the very serious indications of corruption surrounding him. He will have to be judged based on evidence, within the due process of law.

But the response from the First Chamber of the Supreme Federal Court to this yearning for justice was an absurd conviction, without constitutional basis, which cannot be accepted by a sovereign power such as the Federal Senate.

There is no such thing as removal from office by judicial order. Yesterday's decision is yet another symptom of the hypertrophy of the Judiciary, which has been establishing itself as a power above the others and, in some cases, even above the Constitution.

The Federal Senate must reject this violation of its autonomy, lest it further weaken the institutions that originated from the popular vote.

And Aécio Neves also needs to be brought before the Ethics Committee for dishonoring his mandate and the institution.

We have no reason to defend Aécio Neves, but we have every reason to defend democracy and the Constitution.
