PT (Workers' Party) wants a parliamentary inquiry into PSDB (Brazilian Social Democracy Party) regarding the Siemens scandal.

247 - The Workers' Party (PT) caucus in the Chamber of Deputies will support the creation of a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) to investigate allegations of cartel formation in the São Paulo subway system, in a scheme involving companies and PSDB leaders in the state, with losses to public coffers estimated at R$ 577 million, during the governments of Mário Covas, José Serra, and Geraldo Alckmin. "The allegations are compelling; there is material evidence of cartel formation with the misappropriation of millions of reais from public funds," said the caucus leader, José Guimarães.

The proposal for a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) comes from Congressman Paulo Teixeira (PT-SP), who will coordinate the signature collection process. He said that the National Congress can contribute to clarifying "one of the biggest scandals in the Republic." According to him, the cartel defrauded contracts with the full "connivance of the PSDB governments," as evidenced by the accusations made by former executives of the German multinational Siemens to the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade).

Furthermore, Teixeira said, "any initiative in the São Paulo Legislative Assembly to investigate the PSDB is blocked by a shock troop of PSDB members." "Since coming to power almost twenty years ago, PSDB governments in São Paulo have blocked all Parliamentary Commissions of Inquiry (CPIs) involving accusations against the PSDB. A CPI of this nature has never been established in São Paulo," he emphasized.

“The multi-million dollar scams need to be thoroughly investigated, with the identification of those who benefited, punishment, and restitution to the public treasury of the amount corresponding to the overpricing of the works and the supply of equipment,” said Paulo Teixeira. The parliamentarian said that thanks to the overbilling, the city of São Paulo is experiencing “a profound drama in the area of public transportation.”
