PT wants its candidate in São Paulo to be defined this semester.
The state president of the party in São Paulo, Deputy Edinho Silva, justifies the haste: "You can't build a political alliance without a candidate"; he brought to a meeting with party leaders from 26 states and the Federal District four suggested names, all ministers: Aloizio Mercadante (Education), Alexandre Padilha (Health), José Eduardo Cardozo (Justice), and Guido Mantega (Finance); according to Edinho, however, none of the candidates formally expressed interest in running for governor of São Paulo in 2014.
SP247 - The Workers' Party (PT) of São Paulo wants its candidate for governor of the state in 2014 defined by June of this year. "You can't build a political alliance without a candidate," justified the state president of the party, Deputy Edinho Silva. And, during a meeting with PT leaders from 26 states and the Federal District, Edinho presented four suggestions to his colleagues: Ministers Aloizio Mercadante (Education), Alexandre Padilha (Health), José Eduardo Cardozo (Justice), and Guido Mantega (Finance).
According to the leader, the presentation of the names does not mean, however, that any of these ministers has formally expressed interest in running for office. Monday's mention is an indication that the PT (Workers' Party) is likely to sound them out. "These are the names circulating among the party leadership and appearing all the time in debates," commented Edinho.
"When you don't have the machine in your hands, as our opponent [Governor Geraldo Alckmin] does, you have to be organized to win," said the leader, denying that the election campaign was being brought forward. The large number of possibilities to represent the PT in São Paulo next year shows that there is still no consensus in the state for a candidacy, which has even led to speculation that former President Lula could represent the PT in the election.read more).
