PT will encourage candidates to run in the second round in 2016.

The strategy revealed by the president of the PT (Workers' Party) in Bahia, Everaldo Anunciação, aims to defeat Mayor ACM Neto (DEM), who is expected to seek re-election in 2016; "In Salvador, we know that the PT has legitimacy. We lost by a small margin in 2012. PT names are being mentioned, but we are not making it the sole rule to launch a PT candidacy. What we want is unity to have a candidacy that represents this group and reaches the second round," says the PT leader.

Bahia 247 – The leadership of the PT (Workers' Party) in Bahia will hold a meeting on the 26th and 27th of this month to provide 'guiding resolutions' to party members and allies to develop strategies for the 2016 municipal elections. The party will map the municipalities and gather data regarding the conditions of the contest, especially in Salvador, where the PT has never governed.

One of the PT's strategies would be to fragment its allied base so that more than three candidates compete in the election in the capital of Bahia. The initiative would aim to increase the chances of a second round and weaken the current mayor, ACM Neto (DEM), who will seek re-election.

Among those who may run for office in Salvador are members of the Workers' Party: Valmir Assunção (federal deputy); Nelson Pelegrino, current Secretary of Tourism for the State; and Gilmar Santiago, city councilor and former leader of the opposition in the Salvador City Council.

From the base allied to the government of Rui Costa (PT), the PCdoB is reportedly considering launching federal deputy Alice Portugal, and the PSD is thinking about state deputy Alan Sanches or even the senator elected by the party, Otto Alencar. The name of senator Lídice da Mata (PSB) is also being considered.

The president of the PT-BA (Workers' Party of Bahia), Everaldo Anunciação, told the newspaper Tribuna da Bahia that the meeting will kick off a series of meetings to strengthen alliances.

"In Salvador, we know that the PT has legitimacy. We lost by a small margin in 2012. The names of Valmir and Gilmar are indeed being mentioned, but we are not making it the sole rule to launch a candidacy for the PT. What we want is unity to have a candidacy that represents this group and makes it to the second round," said Everaldo.
