PT Ceará presents pre-candidates of women.

Ceará 247 - Held by the Women's Secretariat of the PT Ceará with the presence of the National Secretary of Women of the PT, Anne Karoline, the PT Ceará officially launched yesterday (18) the project "Elas por Elas" which aims to strengthen and boost the candidacies of the party's women for the 2018 elections.

At an event held at the party headquarters, the PT's state secretary for Women, Fátima Bandeira, presented the pre-candidates for state and federal deputy. The PT is expected to have 10 candidates for the Legislative Assembly and 4 candidates for the Federal Chamber, all activists from social movements and the labor movement.

Current PT (Workers' Party) representatives from Ceará, Rachel Marques and Luizianne Lins, will be in the race. Federal representative Luizianne Lins will seek re-election, and Rachel Marques, currently the only woman in the PT's legislature, is also expected to run for a seat in the Federal Chamber of Deputies.

The "Women for Women" project is a national strategy of the party, coordinated nationally by the PT's Women's Secretariat. According to the project, pre-candidates will be guaranteed political and institutional support to level the playing field in the 2018 elections.

According to Secretary Fátima Bandeira, this is an important step to strengthen the candidacies and "marks a new moment in the affirmation of female members of the Workers' Party who will have the objective conditions to enter the electoral race, to try to reverse the low political representation of women in parliaments, especially women who defend the feminist agenda."

The state president of the PT Ceará, state deputy Moisés Braz, was also present at the project launch, reaffirming his support. “This project goes beyond just a candidacy; it’s a project for society, for life; it’s a project to mark the effective participation and commitment that women have today to transformation and the pursuit of space in society.”

The National Secretary for Women, Anne Karolyne, said that the world of politics has always been a very masculinized space, but that all that was needed were the minimum conditions for women to compete. According to her, the advancement of the coup is going hand in hand with moralism, fundamentalism, and the withdrawal of rights, mainly affecting women, and a vanguard party like the PT has the task of strengthening women to face these setbacks. Anne also emphasized that the project is a step, given the challenges we still have to face, but that it begins to build important foundations to overcome the sexist culture and show a new way of doing politics, in a more collective way.

Based on the project, the candidates will receive support for campaign planning, legal advice, accounting advice, and communication and marketing advice.

The project also includes support for LBT candidates, to strengthen the fight for this segment as well. The state secretary of the LGBT sector of the PT Ceará, Mitchele Meira, also participated in the event.

Secretary Anne Karolyne announced at the event that, in addition to including the LBT women segment, the project should also pay special attention to Black women, in coordination with the National Secretariat for Combating Racism.

During the event, a motion was also approved, proposed by the PT's state secretariat for Women, in support of the PT's national president, Senator Gleisi Hoffmann, who is scheduled to have a case judged today by the Supreme Federal Court (STF).
