PSDB and PSB close to an alliance in Pernambuco.

What seemed impossible is now very close to happening; longtime rivals PSDB and PSB may ally themselves for the 2014 Pernambuco state government elections; the Pernambuco PSDB, one of the few parties to be part of the dwindling opposition bloc to Governor Eduardo Campos, may end up joining the government's base and, as a bonus, end up securing the vice-governorship on the socialist ticket that will compete for the Palácio do Campo das Princesas (Governor's Palace); negotiations are reportedly being carried out between Campos himself and the state president of the PSDB, federal deputy Sérgio Guerra.

Pernambuco 247- What seemed impossible is now very close to happening. Longtime rivals, PSDB and PSB may form an alliance for the 2014 Pernambuco state government elections. The Pernambuco PSDB, one of the few parties in the dwindling opposition bloc to Governor Eduardo Campos, could end up joining the government's base and, as a bonus, secure the vice-governorship on the socialist ticket that will compete for the Palácio do Campo das Princesas (Governor's Palace). According to the Jornal do Commercio, negotiations are underway between Campos himself and the state president of the PSDB, federal deputy Sérgio Guerra.

The problem, however, lies in choosing a name to complete the ticket. State Representative Daniel Coelho, one of the fiercest critics of the socialist administration, was considered for the task, since his urban profile would serve as a counterpoint to the possible head of the ticket for the PSB, the former Minister of National Integration, Fernando Bezerra Coelho. However, the legislator reportedly rejected the possibility of taking on the role.

At the same time, Guerra has been talking with other members of the PSDB party who are the most active voice of the opposition within the Legislative Assembly of Pernambuco. State deputies Betinho Gomes and Terezinha Nunes have reportedly been advised not to attack the PSB too strongly and not to rule out the possibility of an alliance between the parties.

According to Jornal do Commercio, the general secretary of PSDB, Betinho Gomes, said, this Tuesday (19) that “an alliance with PSB (in the state election) is not ruled out because dialogue can exist”. This approach, according to him, “will depend on who the candidate will be”, although he did not reveal which socialist name could garner the sympathy of PSDB in Pernambuco.
