PSB acknowledges PT's preference for Alice's running mate.
The municipal president of the PSB party, Waldemar Oliveira, acknowledges "the PT's preference" in the race for the vice-mayor candidate position on the ticket headed by federal deputy Alice Portugal, of the PCdoB party, for the Salvador mayoral elections this year. "The PT has said it is considering several names. We are waiting for them to decide, because it's natural that they would nominate someone. They are the largest party in the coalition, it's natural," states Waldemar. However, the socialist leader says that the PSB will be able to nominate the vice-mayor candidate if the PT does not.
Bahia 247 - On the eve of their joint convention (scheduled for Sunday - 31), PCdoB, PSB and PT are still keeping quiet about who will be the vice-mayor candidate on the ticket headed by federal deputy Alice Portugal (PCdoB) to run for mayor of Salvador.
Among the most significant allies are the PT and the PSB, which withdrew the pre-candidacy of Senator Lídice da Mata. The vice-presidential candidate on the communist ticket is expected to come from the PT, where expectations are strongest around councilman Gilmar Santiago and the municipal president of the party in Salvador, former councilwoman Marta Rodrigues.
The municipal president of the PSB party, Waldemar Oliveira, admitted to the newspaper Tribuna da Bahia that the party recognizes "the PT's preference" in the process of forming the ticket.
"The PT has said that it is analyzing some names to choose from. We are waiting for them to decide, because it is natural that they (the PT) indicate the name. They are the largest party in the base, it's natural," stated Waldemar Oliveira.
The socialist leader, however, reiterated that the PSB will be able to nominate the vice-presidential candidate if the PT does not do so.
Returning to the PT (Workers' Party), the preference is indeed for councilman Gilmar Santiago, but the announcement has not yet been made because he is reportedly seeking some 'guarantees' from the party leadership, including political coordination from Governor Rui Costa.
Behind the scenes, it's said that Gilmar expects some assurance that he won't be left empty-handed if he accepts the vice-mayor candidacy and Alice Portugal is defeated.
The councilman hopes that, in the event of defeat, the PT will give him effective support in a likely candidacy for state representative in 2018, when Rui will probably try to be re-elected governor.
