Protest against bus fares blocks PI-113

Students and workers blocked the PI-113 highway, which connects the municipality of José de Freitas to Teresina. From Piauí Today - Students and workers blocked this morning (17) the PI-113 that connects the municipality of José de Freitas to Teresina. The reason for the blockade is the increase in the bus fare of Empresa São Joaquim which runs between the two cities. The fare went from R$ 4,80 to R$ 5,60.

According to the website Realidade em Foco, PI-113 was temporarily blocked around 5:15 am and traffic remains at a standstill at this time.

PI-113 is one of the main highways connecting Teresina to the north of the state. Early this Wednesday morning, some buses were escorted by the police. The company owner decided to take the buses out of circulation during the protest.

According to the President of the Association of Workers and Students Using Public Transportation in José de Freitas - ATEUTC, Jailson Cruz, passage through the area is only permitted for ambulances and special cases.
