Bill aims to prevent the withdrawal of signatures for the creation of a Special Commission of Inquiry (CEI).

A bill proposed by councilman Thiago Albernaz (PSDB party) aims to prevent council members from withdrawing their names from requests after they have already signed them. Two weeks ago, Elias Vaz attempted to create a Special Commission of Inquiry (CEI) on excessive salaries and obtained the necessary signatures, but shortly before presenting the request, eight council members were pressured by Mayor Paulo Garcia's allied base and withdrew their names from the document. "Our bill, therefore, aims to moralize this issue, preventing this branch of government from suffering damage to public opinion due to the actions of council members who do not stand by their positions," states Albernaz.

Goiás 247_ Councilman Thiago Albernaz, leader of the PSDB in the City Council, presented a draft resolution to the House on Tuesday, altering the internal regulations regarding the collection of signatures from council members for the formation of a Special Commission of Inquiry (CEI).

According to the proposal, the councilman wants to prohibit the withdrawal of signatures for the creation of the CEI (Special Commission of Inquiry), as happened two weeks ago, when 8 of the 19 council members asked to disregard their initial signatures on the CEI, proposed by Elias Vaz to investigate the high salaries paid at Comurg and other municipal agencies.

With the names removed, the CEI (Special Commission of Inquiry) became unfeasible, since the regulations require 12 signatures for its establishment and operation.

Councilman Djalma Araújo (PT) was also a victim of the sudden withdrawals. He tried to launch the Public Transportation Inquiry Commission and obtained the minimum number of signatures required, but at the last minute, some council members changed their minds and withdrew their names. Djalma was left high and dry and unable to present the request.

"Our project, therefore, aims to moralize this issue, to prevent this branch of government from suffering damage in the eyes of public opinion due to the actions of council members who do not stand by their positions," explains Thiago Albernaz. According to him, his project will inhibit maneuvers aimed at shielding individuals from the creation of Special Investigative Commissions (CEIs).

“In this way,” he summarized, “the project establishes that whoever lends their name for the creation of an Inquiry Commission will no longer be able to withdraw their signature from the document. I believe that the proposal will be approved by the House plenary due to its high political reach in defending the interests of society.”
