Teachers continue strike.
The largest strike in the history of the Bahia state education system, the teachers' strike is yet another to tarnish Jaques Wagner's administration; in a new assembly, workers stated that their demands have still not been met.

Teachers in the state education system decided to continue the strike after a vote held this Friday morning (13) in the parking lot of the Legislative Assembly of Bahia (AL-BA). The meeting analyzed the conciliation proposal delivered after mediation by the Public Ministry (MP-BA) between the teachers and the state government. The category prepared a counter-proposal and will present it to the government next Wednesday (18).
In addition to the salary adjustments granted this year, ranging from 6,5% to 11,5%, the government proposed to grant licensed teachers a promotion through a course in November 2012, with a 7% increase, and a further promotion in April 2013, also with a 7% increase.
The State Public Prosecutor's Office (MPE) requested that the benefit be advanced to March 2013, which was agreed to by the State, even after an increase of R$ 23 million in the payroll. The suggestion that there would be no punishment for members of the striking movement was also agreed to.
The president of the Bahia State Education Workers Union (APLB), Rui Oliveira, explained that the majority of teachers decided to continue the strike because the government's proposal still does not meet all the demands of the category. "The strike continues, unfortunately it has not yet come to an end."
The next steps for the movement, beyond presenting the counterproposal, are still being decided by the strike committee, which remains gathered in the AL-BA parking lot.
