Farmers receive 25 tons of corn.

PE247 – Starting on the 29th, the 25 tons of corn destined for cattle ranchers in Pernambuco will begin to be distributed throughout the state. This is because the president of the Port of Recife, Rogério Leão, met with the Secretary of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform of the Government of Pernambuco, Aldo Santos, the president of Conab, Rubens Rodrigues, and the Secretary of Agricultural Policies of the Ministry of Agriculture, Neri Guiller, to sign a cooperation agreement for the distribution of the food. Now, the National Supply Company (Conab) completes a cycle of 75 tons of corn acquired through auction, with simultaneous removal to the states of Pernambuco, Ceará, and Bahia. The distribution of the grain aims to mitigate the effects of the drought, the worst in the last 50 years to hit the Northeast Region.

The 25 tons of feed, the main source of energy for livestock, will be delivered to the State Government's storage units in the municipalities of Serra Talhada, Salgueiro, Ouricuri, Afogados da Ingazeira, Floresta and Petrolina, in the Sertão region, and Garanhuns, in the Agreste region. The other cities in the Sertão, Agreste and Zona da Mata regions of Pernambuco will continue to be supplied by Conab's stocks in Caruaru, São Bento do Una and Itaíba, in the Agreste region, in Arcoverde and Sertânia, in the Sertão region, and in the capital, Recife.

The corn will be divided into 60-kilogram sacks at a price of R$ 18,12 for cattle ranchers purchasing up to 3 tons and R$ 21 for those purchasing between 3,1 and 6 tons. Since May 2012, when the Special Operation of the Over-the-Counter Sales Program began, Conab has supplied Pernambuco with 42,57 tons of corn, in addition to acquiring another 12,47 tons of bagged corn, with simultaneous removal, to be distributed to the state's storage centers.
