Ceara 247 - In 2015, the Federal Highway Police focused its enforcement efforts on the most dangerous stretches of the federal highways, and recorded a 39,2% reduction in the number of accidents, a 4,3% reduction in the injury rate, and a 40% reduction in the death rate. Between midnight on Friday, February 13th, and midnight on Ash Wednesday, February 18th, there were 48 accidents, 44 injuries, and 3 deaths on the federal highways that cross Ceará. In 2014, there were 79 accidents.

Operation Carnival 2015, which is part of the second phase of a more comprehensive enforcement effort, Operation Integrated Road Safety, was planned to increase the presence and availability of the Federal Highway Police during periods, locations, and times with the highest concentration of accident reports, focusing on preventing and reducing traffic violence and also increasing the perception of safety on federal highways.

During the six days of the Operation, priority was given to educational and preventive actions, mainly those related to speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, improper overtaking, failure to use child car seats, and incidents involving motorcycles or mopeds.

The Federal Highway Police (PRF) operated under a special scheme and employed 428 police officers in uninterrupted rotating shifts, 114 vehicles with operational characteristics, 05 Laser Tech photographic radars, and 71 Alcoo-Sensor IV breathalyzers, aiming to combine forces in combating traffic violence.

With the effective inspection of 10.630 vehicles and 11.326 people, 3.929 traffic tickets were issued for violations of the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB), of which 949 were for prohibited overtaking. This harsh reality shows that approximately one vehicle was ticketed every 2,19 minutes in our state. We impounded 118 vehicles at our operational units for various irregularities while driving on the highways.

Excessive speed is one of the factors that cause accidents and aggravate potential injuries to vehicle occupants. In 18 specific inspections, using Lasertech electronic radars, we captured 1.595 images of vehicles traveling on highways at speeds exceeding the legal limit.

5.504 breathalyzer tests were conducted, resulting in 114 drivers being cited for driving under the influence of alcohol. Of these, 10 were arrested for registering blood alcohol levels above 0,30 mg/l during the breathalyzer test and were taken to the Civil Police Stations for processing.
