Bahia 247 - Former minister Geddel Vieira Lima, arrested last week by the Federal Police, is expected to request his removal from the PMDB this Wednesday (13). The tendency of the party leadership is to accept the request for removal on the same date. Geddel is the first secretary of the national leadership of the PMDB and the president of the party in Bahia.

The request for leave of absence is a strategy to try to minimize the crisis triggered by Geddel's arrest, after the Federal Police found R$ 51 million hidden in an apartment in Salvador linked to the former minister, and to prevent the episode from affecting Michel Temer, of whom Geddel was one of the closest collaborators.

Since the former minister's arrest, the PMDB leadership has tried to avoid defending their colleague, stating that those accused of embezzlement and irregularities should answer for the suspicions against them alone.
