President of the PT-BA (Workers' Party of Bahia): "Arresting 2 or 3 people is pointless."
Everaldo Anunciação shares the party's national position that private campaign financing in Brazil is responsible for the emergence of so-called "slush funds"; "The origin of the Mensalão scandal is slush funds, a practice that exists because of the involvement of the business sector in politics. We have to put an end to this, cut the evil at the root. Arresting one or two people doesn't solve anything."
Bahia 247 - The president-elect of the PT (Workers' Party) in Bahia, Everaldo Anunciação, shares the party's national position that private campaign financing in Brazil is responsible for the emergence of so-called "cash 2" in elections.
He commented on the new turbulent period that the PT is going through with the imprisonment of three prominent figures in the party's creation: former minister José Dirceu, suspended congressman José Genoino, and former treasurer Delúbio Soares, due to their conviction in Criminal Action 470, the so-called mensalão scandal.
"The origin of the Mensalão scandal is slush funds, a practice that exists because of the involvement of the business sector in politics. We have to put an end to this, cut the evil at its root. Arresting one or two people doesn't solve anything," said Everaldo in an interview with the Bahia Notícias website.
He will take office as president of the PT in Bahia on the 30th, when the candidate who will represent the party in the race to succeed Governor Jaques Wagner should also be announced.
