Bahia 247 - Salvador's Civil Defense (Codesal) reinforces appeals for people to leave properties in risk areas to 'avoid further loss of life due to the rains'. Yesterday (20) a building collapse was recorded in an area difficult for public authorities to see, in a 'lean-to' structure built in masonry in the Ladeira da Montanha region.
The makeshift structure was built directly on a geological fault in the city, an area unsuitable for any type of construction. One person died and another was injured. Three Civil Defense engineers remain at the site to conduct inspections of the area.
The City Hall has been requesting that people leave residences that present a risk of collapse and seek assistance from Codesal and the Municipal Secretariat for Social Promotion, Sports and Combating Poverty (Semps), including through campaigns on TV, radio and sound trucks in areas impacted by the rains.
Shelter is offered in San Martin, Amaralina, and Pau da Lima, in addition to housing assistance of R$ 300 per month for up to one year, and emergency aid, which can reach up to three minimum wages for those who have suffered losses of movable property.
1.720 benefits have already been granted, including 1.228 housing allowances and 492 emergency aid payments. To access the benefits, it is necessary to call Codesal, free of charge, at 199, to request an inspection of the properties, and then contact Semps, the agency responsible for payments. Families who complete the entire procedure will not be left without assistance.
Show cancellation
Due to the risk to the safety of properties in the Comércio region, the City Hall recommended the cancellation of the Ivete Sangalo and Criolo show in homage to Tim Maia, which was to take place on Sunday (24) at Praça Cairu. The event organizers, understanding the risks, have already confirmed the cancellation.
