Mayors await dialogue with Temer, says Rui.
During inaugurations, Mayor Rui Palmeira (PSDB) said that municipalities expect a dialogue with the federal government to negotiate public debt, just as happened with the states; he also stated that "the Federal Government must look after the municipalities because the situation is very complicated. We await this conversation with the president, even to discuss financing."
Alagoas 247 - During the inauguration of a health unit in Maceió, Mayor Rui Palmeira (PSDB) took the opportunity to talk about the elections and said that voters should compare the candidates and observe those who use public money responsibly. Rui also said that municipalities expect a dialogue with the federal government to negotiate public debt, just as happened with the states.
"Unfortunately, there is still room for vote buying, but I believe that people will compare who is managing the municipality and public money responsibly. Despite the difficulties in various areas, we are delivering on our goals and have been very responsible towards the citizens of Maceió. Resources are tight during this period, but we are handling this responsibly, unlike in the recent past. I am sure that people will make this comparison," stated the mayor.
According to Rui Palmeira, the conversation with President Michel Temer to discuss the city's debts with the federal government is important so that Maceió can move forward on the issue of loans that have already been approved.
"I believe that President Michel Temer should seek dialogue with the municipalities, just as he did with the states. But the situation in Maceió is different, because we don't have debts with the federal government, only very small remnants of debts. On the other hand, we have debts with the INSS (National Institute of Social Security) and payments to Iprev (Municipal Pension Institute), and the Federal Government should look after the municipalities because the situation is very complicated. We are awaiting this conversation with the president, even to discuss financing."
Other capitals in the Northeast are also awaiting the release of these loans. Next week we will sign the contract with the first institution, CAF, for a R$70 million loan for investment in the city. At the end of last year, we received the first authorization from Cofiex, the committee that analyzes these operations with foreign institutions, and we will sign the contract and send it to the national treasury. So, we still need approval from the Treasury and the Senate," he highlighted.
He spoke about the speed cameras and said he is awaiting a re-analysis of the matter by the Court of Auditors, which reportedly found irregularities in the contracts for the electronic equipment. "We are waiting for the Court of Auditors. We requested a re-analysis from Councilor Fernando Toledo and we are awaiting this re-analysis. The State Attorney General's Office submitted its defense within the legal deadline and we are awaiting the Court of Auditors' response."
Teaching unit
The statements by the mayor of Maceió were made during a ceremony held this morning at the Technological Faculty of Alagoas (FAT), where a teaching health unit was inaugurated.
"The Barro Duro community has been waiting for a health unit for a long time, and now, with this partnership, we will assemble a team to meet the so-called spontaneous demand, with a gynecologist, pediatrician, and nurses. It will also be important for the university, as it will be an internship site for students."
This teaching and healthcare unit is the second in the state. There is already one at Cesmac and there will be another with Fits. "We have partnerships in several areas and, for the municipality, it's good because we won't pay rent, water bills, or electricity bills. We will provide the staff, medications, and supplies, as well as some equipment," he points out.
