Bahia 247 - Mayor ACM Neto (DEM) and Governor Rui Costa (PT) were in Baixa do Fiscal, in the railway suburb, on Tuesday (12), where a landslide killed four people on Sunday (10). The leaders went to assess the impacts of the disasters to reinforce the request to the federal government for the release of R$ 400 million for containment works on around 200 slopes in various areas of Salvador.

In the case of Baixa do Fiscal alone, the estimated investment is R$ 25 million. Other areas are expected to benefit from these resources, such as San Martin, São Caetano, Lobato, Liberdade, and Pau da Lima.

ACM Neto highlighted that he has already begun filing lawsuits today to ensure the removal of families who insist on remaining in at-risk areas.

"Nearly a thousand families have left voluntarily and are receiving assistance from the city government. We are offering all the necessary support, such as social rent assistance and emergency aid, in addition to shelters, so that families do not remain in at-risk areas. In many cases, people absolutely do not want to leave. In these cases, we have no alternative but to resort to the courts to guarantee their removal," stated the mayor.

Governor Rui Costa stated that he will assist the city government with teams of engineers to carry out inspections in approximately two thousand residences.

"We had two engineering teams assisting the city hall, and I've already authorized doubling that to four. By Thursday, we want to complete the two thousand inspections that are still pending, assisting the city hall. In the case of those that are demonstrably at risk, the families need to leave immediately. Many of these houses will not be habitable again, and that's why we are also requesting resources from the federal government for the construction of housing complexes," said Rui.
