Mayor from Minas Gerais arrested for involvement in journalist's death.

The mayor of Santa Luzia, Roseli Ferreira Pimentel (pictured), was arrested this Thursday on suspicion of involvement in the death of a journalist last August; according to the decision of the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais, she allegedly participated in the murder of Maurício Campos Rosa, who owned the local newspaper 'O Grito'; three other men suspected of the crime were also arrested; Roseli was found by the Civil Police at her own home and taken to a police station in Belo Horizonte.

The mayor of Santa Luzia (Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte), Roseli Ferreira Pimentel (PSB), was arrested today (7) on suspicion of involvement in the death of a journalist in August of last year. The arrest warrant was signed by Judge Alexandre Victor de Carvalho, of the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais (TJMG).

According to the ruling, she allegedly participated in the murder of Maurício Campos Rosa, who owned the local newspaper O Grito. Three other men suspected of the crime were also arrested.

Roseli was found by the Civil Police at her own home and taken to a police station in Belo Horizonte. Before being transferred to a prison unit, she will undergo examinations at the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML).

Re-elected in 2016 for a second term, Roseli had her mandate revoked by the Regional Electoral Court (TRE-MG) due to irregularities in her campaign. She was removed from office on June 7th. However, she appealed to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and obtained an injunction, returning to her position 15 days later.
