PRE appeals against 'Dirty Record' candidates.

The regional electoral prosecutor of Bahia, Ruy Mello, appealed to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) against the decisions of the Regional Electoral Court of Bahia (TRE-BA) in cases of candidates for state deputy whose candidacies were not affected by the Clean Slate Law; of 30 challenges filed, only about 10 were accepted.

Bahia247 – Dissatisfied with the decisions of the Regional Electoral Court of Bahia (TRE-BA), which exempted 16 candidates for the position of state deputy from having their candidacies challenged under the Clean Slate Law, the regional electoral prosecutor of Bahia, Ruy Mello, has already appealed to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).

The Regional Electoral Prosecutor's Office (PRE) filed 30 challenges. However, only about 10 were accepted by the Bahia Regional Electoral Court (TRE-BA). The issue is that the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and the Regional Electoral Courts have maintained the position that ineligibility only occurs if the City Councils reject the mayors' financial statements.

According to him, candidates whose candidacies were challenged because their accounts were rejected by the Court of Auditors cannot be granted registration. Ruy Mello argues that appealing to the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) is an attempt to reverse the legal position of the electoral judges and also to strengthen and give effectiveness to the Clean Slate Law.

However, this was not the understanding of the electoral judges in Bahia in the cases of Carlos Augusto Silveira Sobral (PMDB), former mayor of Coronel João Sá and candidate for state representative; Carlos Caraíbas de Souza (PV), former mayor of Serra do Ramalho and candidate for state representative; Carlos Robson Rodrigues da Silva (PP), former mayor of Nova Viçosa and candidate for state representative; and the former mayor of Itiúba and candidate for state representative, Cecília Petrina de Carvalho (PT).

As well as Hermenilson Carvalho (PCdoB), former mayor of Lapão and candidate for state representative; Hildécio Meireles Filho (PMDB), former mayor of Cairu and candidate for state representative; Jânio Natal (PRP), former mayor of Porto Seguro and candidate for state representative; and Joaquim Cardoso (PTC), former mayor of Sátiro Dias and candidate for state representative.

The list also includes José Luciano Ribeiro (DEM), former mayor of Caculé and candidate for state representative; José Nilton Azevedo Leal (DEM), former mayor of Itabuna and candidate for state representative; José Raimundo Fontes (PT), former mayor of Vitória da Conquista and candidate for state representative; Joseildo Ramos (PT), former mayor of Alagoinhas and candidate for state representative; as well as Jusmari Oliveira (PSD), former mayor of Barreiras and candidate for federal representative; Luiz Carlos Caetano (PT), former mayor of Camaçari and candidate for federal representative, and Moema Gramacho (PT), former mayor of Lauro de Freitas and candidate for federal representative.
