MDB pre-candidate Santana calls Neto "ungrateful"

Bahia 247 – The resentment that the leadership of the MDB in Bahia harbors towards the mayor of Salvador and national president of the DEM, ACM Neto, who withdrew his candidacy for governor of Bahia to avoid having his image associated with the corruption scandals involving the Vieira Lima family, is the main obstacle to an alliance between the two parties in the 2018 elections. Even with persistent overtures from the DEM's pre-candidate, José Ronaldo, towards the MDB candidate, former Minister of National Integration João Santana, the possibility of an agreement between the two parties is practically ruled out for the first round.

Last week, DEM representatives again approached Congressman Lúcio Vieira Lima, the main leader of the MDB in Bahia, to consult him about a possible alliance, but he refused to support José Ronaldo's candidacy.

According to Santana, ACM Neto acted with "ingratitude." "We voted for him twice. How can I help him win the election twice and then be worthless? It's disrespectful to say that a party like the MDB is worthless. We don't feel betrayed, but the ingratitude is unflattering. We were rejected from the start."
