Sebrae Micro and small businesses that opted for the Simples Nacional tax regime and were excluded from it in December have until January 31st to pay their debts in installments and request reinstatement. Of the 299 small businesses that lost their eligibility for Simples, approximately 78 have already opted for installment plans of up to 120 months, but need to re-enroll. 221 more still need to regularize their situation.

“Small business owners should hurry and request installment payments. 40% of those notified by the tax authorities in 2016 are still missing. The deadline is approaching. Leaving the Simples tax regime could mean bankruptcy. The Simples regime is a protective capsule for small businesses,” warns the president of [organization name]. Sebrae, Guilherme Afif Domingos.

In December, almost half of the small businesses that had debts under the Simples Nacional tax regime, and which had been notified by the Federal Revenue Service in September of last year, paid their debts in installments and remained in the system. Of the 584 micro and small businesses that were notified, 285 regularized their situation before the end of 2016 to remain in the Simples Nacional regime.

To become eligible again, the business owner must pay or settle their debts and request a new enrollment in the system by the end of this month. Business owners who do not regularize their situation in time will only be able to benefit from this taxation system again in 2018.

The recommendation from Sebrae (Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service) is that small business owners with debts under the Simples Nacional (Simplified National Tax System) contact their accountants and ask them to arrange an installment plan of up to 120 months, thus reinstating the company in the Simples Nacional. To do this, the accountant must calculate the amount of the debts and the most appropriate installment. The installment request must be made through [website/platform name - implied but not explicitly stated in the original text]. Simples Nacional website.

To help micro and small business owners settle their accounts, Sebrae promotes the Renegotiation Campaign, which, in addition to encouraging the regularization of tax debts, incentivizes and helps entrepreneurs renegotiate bank, rental, and supplier debts.

For this purpose, Sebrae made available a hotsite with tips for negotiating with different types of creditors and with questions and answers about the campaign. In addition, the Sebrae Call Center (0800 570 0800) and the service points spread throughout the country are also prepared to assist entrepreneurs in settling their accounts.
