Tocantins 247 - The command of the Military Police of Tocantins (PMTO) stated that it will carry out emergency actions in the city of Araguaína in the coming days to reduce crime rates. In the last 30 days alone, four robberies resulting in death have been recorded in the city. In total, 54 homicides have been recorded this year and more than 3,5 robbery incidents. According to the general commander of the Military Police of Tocantins, Colonel Glauber de Oliveira Santos, the reinforcement of policing is being carried out by the military personnel of the 2nd Battalion of the PM of Araguaína, who will work overtime, with a higher workload and will be duly compensated. The state government has already authorized the General Command of the Military Police to pay the overtime to the military personnel.
"This measure allows for a larger force, with the redeployment of police officers who work in the unit's administrative service and an incentive for military personnel in operational service," the Military Police points out.
According to the commander, all appropriate measures will be taken. "The command's visit to the city of Araguaína will be aimed at listening firsthand to the population, local public authorities, merchants, and public safety agencies. We need to understand the problems and join forces to solve them," he said.
Colonel Glauber also mentioned that the State will soon hold a new public competition to train more police officers. “The increase in personnel provided by this competition will be very important for the Military Police and, consequently, for the population. More police officers will guarantee greater possibilities for the Military Police to act in the various municipalities,” he pointed out.
