Police in Sergipe dismantle gang operating in several states.
According to the director of Dipol, Gilberto Guimarães, approximately 12 suspects believed to be part of the gang's branches have already been arrested, and high-caliber weapons, ammunition, and tools used in the crimes were seized from them. The dismantled gang committed several robberies of armored trucks, bank branches, and ATM break-ins in the states of Pará and Maranhão.
SSP - After eight months of investigations carried out by teams from the Civil Police Intelligence Division (Dipol) and the Special Police Operations Complex (Cope), in partnership with police officers from other states, two branches of a gang specializing in bank and armored car robberies and ATM break-ins, operating in several Brazilian states, were dismantled. The arrests were made by the police forces of the states of Pará and Maranhão, based on information provided by Dipol of Sergipe.
According to the director of Dipol, Gilberto Guimarães, approximately 12 suspects believed to be part of the gangs' branches have already been arrested, and high-caliber weapons, ammunition, and tools used in the commission of the crimes were seized from them. The dismantled gangs committed several robberies of armored trucks, bank branches, and ATM break-ins in the states of Pará and Maranhão.
According to Gilberto Guimarães, investigations carried out by the Sergipe police identified that the gang originated in the city of Cabrobó (PE), with branches throughout all the Northeastern states, as well as the state of São Paulo. In Sergipe, this gang allegedly committed a robbery at a Banco do Brasil branch in the municipality of Lagarto approximately six years ago, and the local gang leader died during a confrontation with the police.
Gilberto Guimarães emphasizes that the investigations carried out by Dipol were extremely important and fundamental to dismantling the criminal gangs. He assures that other gangs will be dismantled in a short period of time. “For the first time in Brazil, an intelligence division is opening its doors to investigative analysts from other states to carry out collaborative work like the one we are doing. We have already obtained very positive results, and with the investigations of our department, we will dismantle all the branches of this gang that has been terrorizing the Northeast,” he stressed.
