Police promise to reinforce security in 26 schools.
The Military Police of Alagoas will reinforce security in 15 state schools and 11 public schools in Maceió that are located in areas considered critical. The topic was discussed this Thursday (29) during a meeting between the Capital Policing Command (CPC), the School Policing Battalion (BPE) and members of the units and the Educational Program for Resistance to Drugs (Proerd).
Alagoas247 According to the capital's police commander, Colonel Neuton Bóia, the objective of the meeting was to identify schools located in areas where crime has frightened the population and which will receive more effective support from the Military Police and the Municipal Guard. "We will give greater attention to these schools, such as those in Chã da Jaqueira and Cidade Universitária. Many are in risky locations, and this ends up harming the school environment," said Neuton Bóia.
The CPC commander also stated that the agencies should make a joint effort to prioritize schools and be attentive to the "presence" of drug trafficking in the vicinity of educational units. "Everyone must do their part. We will unite to support everyone, since part of the problems in these schools comes from drugs," said the lieutenant colonel.
Less than two weeks ago, the Maria José Carrascosa Municipal School, in Poço, suspended classes after criminals invaded the building. Almost on the same day, a shootout at the Arnon Affonso de Farias Mello Municipal School, in the José da Silva Peixoto neighborhood, frightened students and residents of the area.
"Sometimes parents simply drop their children off at school, but it's necessary to monitor them daily. The DARE program has been monitoring the situation in some schools, such as Geraldo Mello, where an incident ended up gaining some attention," said Lieutenant Colonel Valdenize Ferreira, coordinator of the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program.
