Mines 247 – Second in the polls for voting intentions, the candidate for governor of Minas Gerais, Pimenta da Veiga (PSDB), stated this Monday (8) that he will use the free electoral program to attack his main opponent, former minister Fernando Pimentel (PT). The PSDB candidate said that his presentation of proposals will be complemented by "political action".

"This will help the people of Minas Gerais to reflect," declared Pimenta, in a meeting with managers of the Santa Casa de Belo Horizonte. The main theme for the attacks by the politician from the PSDB party is the accusation made by former Petrobras director Paulo Roberto Costa, imprisoned since June for his involvement in Operation Lava Jato, which dismantled a money laundering scheme. According to the Federal Police, approximately R$ 10 billion was allegedly moved.

In testimony before the National Congress, a former director of Petrobras stated that members of Congress received bribes in connection with contracts made by the state-owned company. According to Costa, the PT, PMDB, PP, and PSB parties were involved in the scandal.

Pimenta aims to link Pimentel's name to the scandal – the Workers' Party member was Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (2011-2014), even though the former director did not mention him by name as one of the 35 politicians who participated in the scheme.
