Pimenta announces he will take legal action against Temer's campaign.

Brazilian Congressman Paulo Pimenta (PT-RS) announced that he will go to court to seek reimbursement of R$ 16,9 million to public coffers, money used in the controversial campaign "Good people also kill"; documents obtained by the PT deputy leader, via the Access to Information Law, reveal that R$ 1,1 million was spent on the campaign and R$ 15,8 million on media; according to Pimenta, there is a suspicion that these advertising campaigns of the Temer government are being done "in haste and without any criteria," only to inject millions into the media, to buy the media's silence, and also as payment for support of the coup.

Rio Grande do Sul 247 - Federal deputy Paulo Pimenta (PT-RS) announced that he will go to court to request reimbursement of R$ 16,9 million to public coffers, money used in the controversial campaign “Good people also kill”. Documents obtained by the PT deputy leader in the Chamber via the Access to Information Law, and released this Monday (6), reveal that R$ 1,1 million was spent on production and R$ 15,8 million on media. 

According to Pimenta, behind the controversy lies a suspicion that these advertising campaigns by the Temer government are being carried out "in haste and without any criteria," simply to inject millions into the media as a way to buy the media's silence in the face of the current government's disaster, and also as payment for their support of the coup. 

The report from the Presidency's Communications Secretariat indicates that TV Globo alone received R$ 3,2 million, representing 20% ​​of the total spent by the Presidential Palace on media, and 50% of the total amount allocated to television channels. Other media outlets in the Globo group, such as GloboNews, Globo FM, CBN, and Revista Época, received approximately more than R$ 500.

In the Magazine category, Veja received the largest amount, pocketing R$ 203; while in the Radio segment, Jovem Pan, combining AM and FM, took home R$ 220, according to the parliamentarian's report.

The campaign “Good people also kill” was broadcast between the end of December 2016 and taken off the air in the first days of January, after generating outrage among Brazilians and becoming a subject of protests and jokes on the internet. Also criticized by communication professionals, the advertisements offensively targeted certain groups of people known for promoting good in society, and linked the character of these people to traffic accidents and deaths.

Despite its disastrous nature, "Good People Also Kill" received approval from the Ministry of Transport, Ports and Civil Aviation and the Special Secretariat for Social Communication (Secom).
