Governor Wellington Dias launched, this Friday (06), at the Piauí Association of Municipalities (APPM), the Avançar Cidades – Mobilidade e Saneamento program, from the federal government. In Piauí, the program foresees initiatives for the areas of basic sanitation and urban mobility in the 224 municipalities. The initial investment in the state will be more than R$ 3 billion, defined according to the debt capacity of each city.
"The federal government launched this public policy with the intention of addressing basic issues such as drainage, paving, and lighting. It's a loan to be repaid over 20 years, with a 4-year grace period. In other words, it's a great opportunity for municipalities," the governor highlighted.
Interested municipalities must complete the letters of inquiry, submit the project to Caixa Econômica Federal (a Brazilian bank), and await selection to receive the funds. “Caixa's role as the financial agent for this project is to encourage municipal managers to seek investments and make improvements in their cities. Caixa will analyze the amounts and support the necessary measures to ensure that this money is used correctly,” states the superintendent of Caixa Econômica Federal, Elizomar Guimarães.
Municipalities with fewer than 20 inhabitants will be able to acquire up to R$ 5 million, and those with more than 20 inhabitants, up to R$ 15 million. “We already have 12 municipalities evaluated, with investment capacity, and now we are working to organize the registrations of the remaining cities. With this, it will be possible for important improvements to happen in the infrastructure of the regions and in the lives of citizens,” comments Gil Carlos, president of APPM.
Nationwide, investments of approximately R$ 20 billion will be made. These funds come from the FGTS (Brazilian Severance Indemnity Fund) and BNDES (Brazilian Development Bank), under the management of the National Secretariat for Environmental Sanitation of the Ministry of Cities.
