Marcelo Brandão, reporter for Agência Brasil - The Attorney General's Office (PGR) will investigate the prison system situation in Amazonas, Rio Grande do Sul, Pernambuco, and Rondônia. The entity may even propose to the Supreme Federal Court (STF) federal intervention in the prison management of these states. The governors of the four states, as well as the Minister of Justice, Alexandre de Moraes, will be notified and will be required to provide information to the PGR.

The acting Attorney General of the Republic, Nicolao Dino, has initiated administrative proceedings to investigate possible violations of constitutional and sub-constitutional norms. Brazil is a signatory to international human rights instruments, such as the American Convention on Human Rights (Pact of San José, Costa Rica), and the Attorney General's Office will investigate whether there has been a breach of these agreements.

The Brazilian State is already answering to the Inter-American System of Human Rights for violations in prison units in Rio Grande do Sul (Porto Alegre Central Prison), Rondônia (Urso Branco), Pernambuco (Aníbal Bruno) and Maranhão (Pedrinhas), as well as São Paulo (Parque São Lucas).

Last Sunday (1st) and Monday (2nd), criminal factions clashed at the Anísio Jobim Penitentiary Complex (Compaj), in Manaus, resulting in 56 deaths, and four more murders of prisoners at the Antônio Trindade Penal Institute (Ipat), known as Piraquequara. The incident led the Minister of Justice to Manaus, where he met with local government authorities. During this trip, the transfer of leaders of criminal factions to federal prisons was agreed upon.
