Tocantins 247 - The Federal Police of Araguaína launched Operation Maginot this Thursday (15), with the aim of investigating the misappropriation of public funds by the Municipality of Sampaio.
Politicians and public servants are using a shell company which, according to the Federal Police, "is registered in the name of a public servant from Sampaio, but has been identified as being owned by the Secretary of Administration and Finance of the Municipality, and the current mayor."
The shell company was allegedly hired through bid rigging to carry out several projects that were supposedly executed by the municipality's own employees, thus misappropriating the originally allocated funds.
"Investigations have already confirmed that the scheme has been operating since 2013. However, the possibility that the fraud has been occurring since the creation of the 'phantom' company in 2009 is not ruled out. Curiously, the name of the construction company under investigation, APS ENGENHARIA, refers to the initials of the father of the current mayor of Sampaio," the Federal Police reported.
