Sergipe 247 - Governor Jackson Barreto met this Monday (4) with the president of Petrobras, Pedro Parente, who came to Sergipe to announce a new model for oil exploration in the State involving the participation of small and medium-sized companies.

This new model will be applied to the exploration of wells in shallow waters and onshore fields.

Parente emphasized that deepwater exploration and exploration in the Carmópolis field will remain the responsibility of Petrobras.

He also said that this new model will guarantee more investment in the sector in Sergipe, this time from the private sector.

The governor read a document he had given to Pedro Parente, expressing his concern regarding the divestment process that Petrobras will carry out in the state. He showed, through data, the importance of Petrobras to the economy of Sergipe, being responsible for 40% of the state's industrial GDP.

JB gave a speech defending the jobs generated in the various sectors involved in oil and gas exploration.

Parente presented figures to justify the company's divestment in Sergipe. According to him, the company has a debt that represents five times its annual revenue, which demonstrates that it is unable to make its own investments because to leverage the company it will need to seek resources, and these costs make operations unfeasible.

"It is a matter that involves the survival of Petrobras, which intends to close the year with US$21 billion in cash if it carries out the divestment of US$14 billion," states a text sent by the State Secretariat of Communication.

"If this maneuver is not carried out, the fiscal year would end with only US$7 billion, which for a company like Petrobras operating in a giant market makes its operation very risky, even unfeasible," he adds.

When questioned by the governor, the president of Petrobras stated that no decision has yet been made regarding divestments at Fafen and the Port of Sergipe.

Parente took the opportunity to announce that the company will conduct technical studies aimed at implementing a work plan, in the shortest possible time, regarding the oil and gas well in the area of the Apodi cement factory.

Jackson was emphatic in saying that he hopes this process happens as quickly as possible. "We can't wait any longer for Sergipe to receive a R$1 billion investment in this cement factory that will generate thousands of jobs in the Santo Amaro das Brotas region. We're already not going to have investments from Petrobras, and now we risk not getting the cement factory investment at all. It's not possible," he complained.

Parente said he would personally work to resolve this issue as soon as possible. He also said that transferring Petrobras' management in Sergipe is out of the question and that there are no studies in that direction.
