PE247 – Production volume in Pernambuco hit 53,1 points in May, compared to 47,1 in the previous month on a scale of 0 to 100 points. According to a survey by the Economics, Studies and Research Unit (UEP) of the Federation of Industries of the State of Pernambuco (Fiepe), the result, in addition to being above the limit point (50 points), was higher than that recorded in the Northeast and also in Brazil, both at 51,1.

Research showed that the state presented other positive results throughout the month of May. Growth was recorded in the indicators for the number of employees (51 points, compared to 48,3 in April) and stability in the Installed Capacity Utilization (45,8 points). In Pernambuco, these indices surpassed the results for the Northeast and Brazil as a whole.

The study also includes business owners' expectations for the next six months. According to the results of the survey conducted by Fiepe, there is an increase in expectations for the purchase of raw materials (from 55,6 points to 59,9 points) and an increase in the number of employees, rising from 52,5 points in April to 55 points in May.

Economist Júlio Becher, manager of UEP, believes that the increase in investments may be related to entry into the international market. "The Industrial Survey found that many Pernambuco business owners believe they will export more in the coming months, which will boost the sector," he analyzed.

The research also addressed the evolution regarding the number of employees. Pernambuco reached 51,0 points, representing a 5,6% increase compared to the previous month (48,3). And, once again, the state showed growth above the Northeast (49,7) and Brazil (49,5).

Regarding the inventory of finished products, the industrial survey indicates 48,8 points in Pernambuco. The Northeast and Brazil as a whole presented indices of 49,9 and 51,4, respectively. This means that the state is experiencing higher demand and, consequently, having to produce more. However, the economist warns that care must be taken to avoid the risk of not being able to meet demand if inventory levels remain low.
