Goiás247_ Governor Marconi Perillo attended the inauguration of the new commander-general of the Military Police, Colonel Sílvio Benedito Alves, this Monday, the 25th. The previous commander, Colonel Edson Costa Araújo, will serve as executive superintendent of Public Security for the Secretariat of Public Security and Justice (SSPJ). Vice-Governor José Eliton, the Secretary of Public Security, Joaquim Mesquita, parliamentarians, and authorities connected to the sector also attended the inauguration, which took place at the Military Police Academy in the University Sector.

Colonel Edson bid farewell to his post with a speech praising the work carried out since November 2011, when he assumed command of the Military Police for the second time. He highlighted the number of calls handled by the police during this period (2 million), the increase in the recovery of stolen vehicles from 76% to 91%, the improvement in drug enforcement, and the acquisition of new fleets and equipment, acquired thanks to the State Government's commitment to facilitating the work of the Military Police. "Thanks to the governor's efforts, our vehicles and equipment have been improved and, due to a project he created, we had more than 2000 promotions last year and 1180 new colleagues in the force," he recalled.

Sworn in, Colonel Sílvio Alves, who previously headed the 2nd Regional Command of the Military Police (CRPM) in Aparecida de Goiânia, recalled his 27-year career dedicated to the Corporation. He joined the Military Police in 1985 and has held various positions, including head of PM-2 (intelligence section) and implementation of Community Policing in Goiás. Sílvio said that his mission in his new position is to strengthen the Community Policing program created during Marconi's first term as governor. "A strong, orderly, and community-oriented police force—that's what I believe in," he declared.

The governor thanked Colonel Edson for his loyalty and for believing in the social pacification project he recommended back in 2011. To the new commander, he said he expects total dedication from the Corporation in defense of society. “What I expect is that they give their all in defending society, bringing peace to our families. We have drawn up a strategic plan that will be implemented over these last two years, and what we want is the commander present on the streets. We will fight so that society feels safe with the Goiás Military Police, which is one of the best in Brazil,” he urged.
