Goiás 247_ During the inauguration ceremony of the new Attorney General of the State of Goiás, Lauro Machado Nogueira, which took place on Monday afternoon (11), at the headquarters of the Public Ministry of the State of Goiás, Governor Marconi Perillo appealed to the state and federal Public Ministry to take up the fight in defense of linking resources from the Union Budget to the area of Public Security.

He highlighted the struggle of governors, and more specifically the Government of Goiás, to offer quality security to citizens. “The state government is solely responsible, operationally and financially, for Public Security. We need to have earmarked revenue for the area of Security, just as there is already for Health and Education. State governments do not have the necessary resources to meet all the demands in this area,” he declared.

In his speech at the ceremony, the governor reiterated his consistency in dealing with the Public Prosecutor's Office. "My position has always been unwavering regarding the Public Prosecutor's Office. I have always defended it, whether as a member of parliament, from the ruling party or the opposition, or as governor. I support and fight for the Public Prosecutor's Office to remain independent, so that nothing undermines its autonomy," he emphasized.

In closing, Marconi reaffirmed his willingness to fully support the new Attorney General's administration. "I leave the doors open to the Public Prosecutor's Office and to Dr. Lauro Machado. I will be by his side to help him fulfill the commitments made to the profession and to society," he said.

In speeches by former prosecutor Benedito Torres and his successor Lauro Machado, the governor was remembered as a friend of the Public Prosecutor's Office. Benedito Torres said: “You showed us your kindness and friendship in all the dozens of hearings we had throughout our term. We were able to implement measures in various areas thanks to the support that the government never failed us.”

The newly appointed Attorney General paid tribute to Governor Marconi for the democratic decision to appoint, from the shortlist of three, the candidate who received the most votes in the election held on February 18th. "I am extremely grateful for this gesture. You show respect for the profession and the will of its members," noted Lauro Machado.
