The president of the City Council was found dead alongside her boyfriend at home on March 3rd.
247 - The forensic reports on the deaths of councilwoman Yanny Brena Alencar and Rickson Pinto Lucena pointed to femicide followed by suicide. This conclusion was reached by the Forensic Science Institute (Pefoce) and the Civil Police, through the Women's Defense Police Station (DDM) of Juazeiro do Norte.
The president of the City Council was found dead next to her boyfriend, at home, on March 3rd. More details about the investigation will be released by the Civil Police this Thursday (23).
According to a G1 news report, Yanny Brena suffered injuries to her neck and abdomen, and also had broken fingernails, which proves the woman's struggle to survive.
“Yanny reported that she no longer wanted to pay Rickson's bills; that she never shared the couple's expenses, she always covered everything,” said a friend of the councilwoman in a statement to the police.
Rickson, who lived with the young woman, presented himself as a rodeo athlete but did not have a steady job. Yanny's family disapproved of the relationship.
Brazil had 3,9 intentional homicides of women in 2022 (a 2,6% increase compared to the previous year), the highest number ever recorded since the law came into effect in 2015.
