Percentage of indebted families falls to 58,1%
The percentage of families with debt stood at 58,1% in June of this year, according to the National Survey of Consumer Indebtedness and Default (Peic), released by the National Confederation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC); the rate is lower than those observed in May of this year (58,7%) and in June of last year (62%); in the monthly comparison, it is the fifth consecutive monthly decrease in the level of indebtedness.
The percentage of families with debts stood at 58,1% in June of this year, according to the National Consumer Indebtedness and Default Survey (Peic), released this Thursday (30) by the National Confederation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC). The rate is lower than those observed in May of this year (58,7%) and in June of last year (62%). In the monthly comparison, it is the fifth monthly drop in the level of indebtedness.
The percentage of people with overdue debts reached 23,5% in June of this year, a rate lower than the 23,7% in May, but higher than the 21,3% in June 2015. Those who will not be able to pay their debts or bills total 9,1% of all Brazilian families, a percentage higher than the 9% in May of this year and the 7,9% in June of last year, and the highest since October 2010 (9,5%).
Credit cards are the main source of household debt: 76,6% have credit card debt. This is followed by installment plans (15,6%), personal loans (11,3%), and car financing (10,8%). On average, the time to pay off overdue debts reaches 62,4 days.
