Sebrae Agency - Small companies that have increased productivity through the adoption of technical standards will be recognized at the sixth edition of the ABNT Excellence in Standardization Award, which takes place at the Sebrae headquarters in Brasília (DF), on Thursday (8).

“We work with the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) to expand access to knowledge for small businesses, allowing them to benefit from innovative standards and constantly improve their processes to ensure ever greater quality, safety, and reliability for the consumer,” says Heloisa Menezes, technical director of Sebrae.

According to ABNT's Director-General, Ricardo Fragoso, the partnership with Sebrae made it possible to take study committee meetings to places never before visited, where technical standards and ABNT were still new. “There are several success stories reported by entrepreneurs who saw their companies grow and gain market share because they participated in the standardization process or because they applied the right standard for their product or service. Thanks to Sebrae's reach, we were able to achieve our mission with small businesses nationwide.”

The use of technical standards has promoted remarkable and constant growth in small businesses, such as the Hotel Pousada Casa Tasca, in Bento Gonçalves (RS). “If an entrepreneur wants to grow, they need to keep up with market trends and demands, investing in courses and innovating. You can't stand still,” says Dirce Tasca Ughi, winner of the award in the Services category, who managed to adapt her business to sustainability concepts thanks to one of the technical standards available for micro and small businesses. The company Minas Laminação Beneficiamento e Comércio de Vidros, from Contagem (MG), will also be awarded in the Industry category.

The award ceremony is part of a program workshop on the topic, scheduled to begin at 14:30 PM, with the participation of the technical director of Sebrae, Heloisa Menezes, and the general director of ABNT, Ricardo Fragoso.

The event will also feature a panel discussion on the demands and challenges of small business participation in standardization, which will address the following segments: Adventure Tourism; Sustainability in Accommodation; Beauty Salons; Beekeeping; Geographical Indication; and Gym and Fitness Equipment. There will also be a panel on the demands and challenges of small business participation in standardization and a presentation on the study of standardization trends for the service sector.
