Pernambuco 247 - Former federal deputy Pedro Corrêa (PP) may work as a radiologist in the municipality of Garanhuns, in the Agreste region of Pernambuco, earning a salary of R$ 2,5. The invitation was extended by Mayor Izaías Régis (PTB), a friend of the former deputy's son, Fábio Corrêa. The former parliamentarian, who was sentenced to seven years and two months in prison for money laundering and passive corruption during Criminal Action 470, known as the "Mensalão" scandal, also received an invitation to study at the Garanhuns Higher Education Authority (AESGA).

Corrêa was transferred to the Agreste Resocialization Center (CRA), in the city of Canhotinho, 50 kilometers from Garanhuns, on the 17th. According to the mayor of Garanhuns, “Corrêa is not a criminal” and “deserves the opportunity to work.” Although, by law, he does not need to undergo retraining to return to practicing medicine – Corrêa has not practiced as a doctor for over 30 years – Régis told the Folha de Pernambuco newspaper that if the former parliamentarian prefers, he can also update his knowledge in the field.

Corrêa's defense attorney, Plínio Nunes, confirmed receiving the invitation but said he has not yet formally requested it from the court. Currently, the former parliamentarian's defense is still awaiting authorization from the Supreme Federal Court (STF) regarding the transfer of the case from the 1st Criminal Execution Court (VEP) to the 3rd Criminal Execution Court of Caruaru, as well as the official notification for the payment of the R$ 1,6 million fine that the former deputy will have to pay within a maximum of ten days after receiving the summons.
