Goiás 247 - Following the national trend of reducing public spending, Mayor Paulo Garcia (PT) announced another administrative reform on Wednesday afternoon. The most profound impact is on the restructuring of the secretariats, with the elimination of 11 departments: Housing; Human Resources; Civil Affairs; Youth; Racial Equality; People with Disabilities and Reduced Mobility; Science and Technology; Inspection; Tourism, Sports and Leisure, plus two extraordinary secretariats.
The functions of these secretariats will be incorporated into other departments of the administration, with the aim of streamlining the public sector and, mainly, saving money. Paulo Garcia's goal is to save around R$ 70 million per year with this new structure of the City Hall.
The mayor said he will only announce the names of the secretaries after the bill is approved by the City Council. The matter will be sent to the Legislature next week.
Last year, the Workers' Party member carried out an administrative reform, but the changes did not result in the financial recovery of the city hall. For two years, the city hall has suffered from a drain on its coffers and at one point had a deficit of R$ 400 million, in addition to a monthly deficit of R$ 40 million.
This new reform resulted in a crisis with the PMDB because the allied party fears losing even more influence in the city hall. After an exchange of barbs and threats of a break from the PMDB, the disagreement was brought under control. However, the relationship between the PT and PMDB is not as friendly as before, and the announcement of the names for the new cabinet could reignite the flames of discord within the alliance.
