According to PSB, Cid should avoid public arguments in the newspapers.
The statements by the governor of Ceará, Cid Gomes (PSB), that the opposition to President Dilma Rousseff's (PT) government is encouraging the potential presidential candidacy of the governor of Pernambuco, Eduardo Campos (PSB), were not well received by the party leadership. According to the party's national vice-president, Roberto Amaral, although the PSB is a democratic party, discussions of this kind should take place within the Executive Committee and not through newspapers.
Paulo Emílio_PE247 - The statements by the governor of Ceará, Cid Gomes (PSB), that the opposition to President Dilma Rousseff's (PT) government is encouraging the potential presidential candidacy of the governor of Pernambuco, Eduardo Campos (PSB), were not well received by the party leadership. According to the party's national vice-president, Roberto Amaral, although the PSB is a democratic party open to both criticism and suggestions, these discussions should take place within the Executive Committee and not through newspapers.
In an interview with Valor Econômico, Cid said that there are those interested in promoting a PSB candidate with the aim of harming the party later on. "They're giving him enough rope to watch the circus burn down. Anyone who is active in the opposition wants to divide the dominant force," he stated. According to him, a PSB candidate would hinder the formation of alliances, in addition to the risk of Campos's supporters abandoning the PSB shortly afterward. "He's putting himself forward as a candidate. And how many of those people will stay with him? I've seen this movie many times," he emphasized.
Another point highlighted by Cid, who defends maintaining the alliance with the PT and supporting the re-election of President Dilma Rousseff, is that the support surrounding Eduardo Campos's possible candidacy will also have an impact on the state elections. "The only bargaining chip he has to offer in an alliance is the governorship of Pernambuco," he said.
The criticisms from the governor of Ceará did not please the party leadership. “The PSB is a democratic party, open to both criticism and suggestions. Cid's statements published in the newspapers are reheated conversations. For the party, there is nothing new. We understand his position, but this discussion must be done internally, within the party, and not through the newspapers. He is a member of the National Executive Committee and has free access to discuss this matter with the PSB leadership whenever he wants,” stated Amaral.
Regarding the concern expressed by his fellow party member from Ceará about forming alliances, Amaral commented that this issue will depend on the position taken by the PSB at the national level. “The negotiations are being carried out state by state. But everything is still in a very early stage. All state alliances will depend on the national plan, which is not yet finalized,” he emphasized.
