Alagoas247 - Death continues to haunt active-duty military personnel and those who have entered the paid reserve. Yesterday, commenting on the eighth crime in less than two months, this time against retired police officer Regivânio Batista dos Santos, 40, which occurred last Thursday in Piaçabuçu, the president of the Association of Enlisted Police Officers, Wagner Simas, said that police officers are in the crosshairs of criminals.

“The truth is that we are being hunted. And this is due to the fact that the force is reduced and the amount of time police officers spend fighting crime. Because the number of officers is low, the more time a police officer works, the more targeted they become, even in the community where they live,” Simas assessed.

According to him, the association already has statistics that indicate that attacks and crimes against police officers occur in peripheral areas, marked by violence and where, in general, they live. "And they only live there because what they earned and continue to earn throughout their lives isn't enough to move to other, less violent areas. Therefore, even after they leave active duty, they are still seen as police officers by criminals," Simas analyzed.
