247 - Gilson Machado, president of Embratur, cowardly attacked gay people in a live broadcast with Damares Alves, Minister of Human Rights. He said: “It is written in the Bible: Jesus Christ was born, grew up, was crucified and resurrected in human form. Mary, yes, she was a great woman, who accompanied him throughout his suffering.”

The Veja magazine report The episode recounts: “During the 50-minute debate, many topics were discussed, including pedophilia and prostitution. At one point, Gilson Machado decided to criticize the play “The Gospel According to Jesus, Queen of Heaven,” which was staged in Pernambuco two years ago. In the play, Jesus is portrayed as homosexual. It was then that the president of Embratur made a prejudiced comment and attacked gay people.”

Machado said: “And that line was crossed, because wanting to impose one's sexuality on the vast majority of Brazilian Christians is abominable. And another thing. I have nothing against those who use their wrinkled lower back orifice for sex. But wanting to impose one's sexuality on a large majority of Christians and wanting to distort the way Jesus Christ came to Earth… It is written in the Bible: Jesus Christ was born, grew up, was crucified and resurrected in the form of a man. Mary, yes, she was a great woman, who accompanied him throughout his suffering.”

The article also states that "he then apologized to Damares for his 'outburst.' The minister made no comment. 'Minister, I apologize for my outburst.'"
