Alese Agency with JC - The state deputies of Sergipe began to consider the Executive Branch's draft budget proposal for the state government for the fiscal year 2014, estimating revenue and setting expenditure. The proposal is for approximately R$ 8,3 billion. The budget was quickly approved in its first reading after being put to a vote.

The budget proposal, submitted to the Legislative Assembly at the end of October, includes investments of approximately R$ 1,1 billion for Health, R$ 1 billion for Education, and R$ 894 million for Public Security. The Social Security system, which has a deficit exceeding R$ 500 million, will receive approximately R$ 1,3 billion. The government has reduced spending in sectors such as transportation, sanitation, agriculture, and communication.

The proposal now returns for consideration in a second discussion by the members of the Committee on Economy, Finance, Budget and Taxation of the Legislative Assembly. It is worth remembering that controversies arise in the third discussion when parliamentarians present their amendments. The expectation is that the plenary vote will take place by December 19th. Only then will the parliamentarians be able to go into recess.
