As a supporter of the Cachoeira Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva could become one of the targets of the commission.

The opposition unearthed a testimony from lawyer Rogério Buratti to the Bingo CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) in 2005, in which he stated that, in partnership with "gambling entrepreneurs" from Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, Carlinhos Cachoeira allegedly provided R$ 1 million in undeclared funds to Lula's 2002 campaign.

Cachoeira was arrested by the Federal Police for involvement in illegal gambling, and his businesses will be investigated by a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry in Congress. The commission is expected to be created today and will have a government majority, with enough votes to block the opposition's plans.

The text from the Bingo CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) states: "Rogério Tadeu Buratti affirmed firmly and clearly that Mr. Waldomiro Diniz, representing José Dirceu, collected money from 'bingo operators' in the State of Rio de Janeiro, as well as from Gtech and the gambling businessman Carlos Augusto Ramos, known as Carlinhos Cachoeira, and that the amount collected by Waldomiro was around R$ 1 million."

In total, according to the report, "gaming companies" funded "President Lula's campaign and the PT" with R$ 2 million. "The funds passed through the campaign's finance committee."
