PE247 - The Regional Seminars All for PernambucoThe initiative, used by the state government to prioritize management through popular participation, has just been awarded by the UN. The initiative, led by Governor Eduardo Campos, won the "United Nations Public Service Award (UNPSA)," awarded annually to recognize good administrative practices and encourage the dissemination of these advancements worldwide. The comprehensive panel of criticisms, suggestions, and demands is consolidated in documents such as the Multi-Year Plan (PPA) and the state's own Budget Law.

This practice was institutionalized by the state's Management Model, adopted since 2007. In its second edition, which took place last year, the Government of Pernambuco visited 12 hub cities in the state's Development Regions.

One of the most concrete results of the debates was the record of 26 proposals, pointing to activities, projects, or public policies. These were subsequently analyzed, prioritized, and consolidated in the Multi-Year Plan (PPA), forming the basis for the state's planning and management in the following years. The practice implemented in Pernambuco was considered the best and most innovative system for popular participation, with demands incorporated into the formulation of public policies.

The award ceremony will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City (USA) on June 25, 2012, at the opening of an event addressing the theme "Innovation in Citizen Engagement for Effective Governance," organized by the Division of Public Administration and Development Management of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA).
