Eight people died in bank robberies in 2012.

In 2012, Bahia was second only to São Paulo (15 cases) in the ranking of murders committed during bank robberies and bank exit robberies; there were eight deaths last year, compared to one in 2011.

The number of bank robberies increased in 2012, and with it, the number of fatal bank robberies in Bahia also rose. There were eight deaths last year, compared to one in 2011, according to an article published in the newspaper A Tarde.

In 2012, Bahia was second only to São Paulo (15 cases) in the ranking of murders committed during bank robberies and bank exit robberies.

The data is part of a national survey released by the Union of Bank Employees of the State of Bahia.

Conducted jointly by Dieese, the National Confederation of Security Guards, and the National Confederation of Workers in the Financial Sector, the study shows that 57 people were killed in Brazil last year as a result of bank robberies – up from 49 victims in 2011 (an increase of 16,3%).
