Official: Alckmin is re-elected governor of São Paulo.
Governor Geraldo Alckmin, of the PSDB party, was re-elected in São Paulo with 57,31% of the valid votes; Paulo Skaf, of the PMDB party, registered 21,53% of the valid votes, against 18,22% for Alexandre Padilha, of the PT party, well above the voting intentions released by Ibope; born in Pindamonhangaba (SP), Alckmin will govern São Paulo for a third term.
SP 247 - The governor of São Paulo, Geraldo Alckmin, from the PSDB party, has been re-elected. He received 57,31% of the valid votes, according to data released by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). Paulo Skaf (PMDB) came in second place with 21,53%, and Alexandre Padilha (PT) came in third with 18,22%, well above the voting intentions reported by Ibope.
Geraldo José Rodrigues Alckmin Filho, 62 years old, was born in Pindamonhangaba (SP) and was mayor of the city from 1977 to 1982. He was a state deputy between 1983 and 1987, and a federal deputy between 1987 and 1994. Between 1995 and 2001 he was vice-governor, assuming the position of governor in 2001, after the death of then-governor Mário Covas (PSDB). In the 2002 state election, he was re-elected governor of the state.
In March 2006, Alckmin resigned from his position to run for President of the Republic. He made it to the second round, but was defeated in the reelection of former president Lula. In 2008, he ran for mayor of São Paulo, but was defeated in the first round by Gilberto Kassab.
In 2009 he held the position of Secretary of Development for the state of São Paulo during José Serra's (PSDB) administration, and in the 2010 state elections he was elected governor in the first round.
