Odebrecht did not stop with the arrest of its president.
The blog 'Alô Alô Bahia' analyzes the professionalism with which Odebrecht is reacting to the arrest of its president, Marcelo Odebrecht, in Operation Lava Jato; "With Marcelo in prison, Emílio Odebrecht, Sr., did what he had to do - he took a plane and went to the São Paulo office to work for the largest Brazilian multinational. The Odebrecht philosophy has always involved extreme dedication and an almost Spartan life of commitment to work. Compared to other Brazilian businessmen, the Odebrechts have always been an example of austerity. But also of boldness and audacity," says the blog.
Hello Hello Bahia - Actions speak louder than words. With Marcelo in prison, Emílio Odebrecht, Sr., did what he had to do – he took a plane and went to the São Paulo office to work for the largest Brazilian multinational. The Odebrecht philosophy has always involved extreme dedication and an almost Spartan life of commitment to work. Compared to other Brazilian businessmen, the Odebrechts have always been an example of austerity, but also of boldness and audacity. The situation in the country was already tense after the conclusion of Ricardo Pessoa's plea bargain, which has not yet been approved by Minister Teori Zavascki. But the fall of Andrade Gutierrez and, above all, the arrest of Marcelo Odebrecht brought the pressure to its peak. There is no other subject and no other purpose in the government than to find a way out of the situation. There are already signs of serious concern within the opposition ranks as well. What Marcelo, resigned to being arrested, called a "mess" has the potential to affect the PSDB, the main opposition party. If all this wasn't bad enough, former President Lula destroyed the last paper bridge linking him to Dilma Rousseff's government. Lula, who had already been escalating his rhetoric, accuses Dilma of weakness and fulminates: she is to blame for the current state of affairs. However, what is already bad can still get worse. In a scenario of uncontrolled and lax enforcement of existing rules, the dark cloud could engulf the Chamber of Deputies, the Senate, FHC (Fernando Henrique Cardoso), Serra (former president), the high judiciary, and many, many governors and former governors. A Supreme Court Justice has already warned that plea bargains prove nothing. Proof is established through investigation. In legal circles, criticism of Operation Lava Jato is widespread; which doesn't change the fact that reputations are being destroyed. If the situation advances to politicians, the process changes jurisdiction – it goes to the Supreme Court. Otherwise, it will quickly reach Lula (as he himself predicts). Like the Romans who awaited the barbarians, perhaps the ratification of Pessoa's plea bargain will resolve some of these serious problems. In this scorched-earth scenario, some hopeful individuals believe in a new country. Pessimists also believe in a new country, but they foresee poverty and a Berlusconi-type figure in power. Oh! Regarding the eventual plea bargain of Marcelo Odebrecht, the general comment from the well-informed is: forget it!
